Topic: "The Future of Ferries in New York Harbor"
The geography of the region is dominated by water and ferries have a long history in New York Harbor — dating back to the 17th century. The last 25 years have witnessed the return of this venerable, yet new-again, form of transportation to the region. Where are we now, how did we get here, and what might the future hold? Private ferry service in the New York metropolitan region has evolved to serve key destinations and events, including Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Governors' Island, and New Jersey plus Mets and Yankees baseball games. Carriers such as Seastreak, Liberty Water Taxi, New York Waterway and NY Water Taxi transport tens of thousands of passengers each day.
