Transportation System Security: Progress Since 9/11 |
Speaker: |
Dr. Michael Bronzini, Dewberry Chair Professor, Dept. Of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering, George Mason University
The terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001 prompted sweeping changes in homeland security, especially in the transportation sector. This presentation provides an overview of the current status of the national effort to improve transportation and infrastructure security, and the basics of how to protect transportation assets. Topics include key reports and directives; bridge and tunnel security; mass transit systems; intermodal freight and global supply chain security; and emergency preparedness and response. An all hazards, asset management approach to the subject is emphasized.
Dr. Bronzini's prior positions include Director of the Center for Transportation Analysis at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at Penn State University, and Director of the Transportation Center and Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Tennessee. He is Chair of the Education Committee and a member of the Transportation Security Committee in ASCE's Transportation and Development Institute.
