The 46th Annual Transportation Research Forum was held March 6 - 8 at the Marvin Center; George Washington University in Washington, D.C. George Washington University is located in the Foggy Bottom area of D.C. The Watergate, Kennedy Center, World Bank, State Department and the White House are all within a short walking distance. The Forum was co-sponsored by the Aviation Institute at GWU. |

| The conference began Sunday night with a reception at the George Washington University Club. The Club provided a warm and historic setting for TRF members and Forum attendees to enjoy conversation, time to renew old friendships and discussions of critical transportation issues. |

Invaluable assistance was provided to the Forum presenters by the staff and graduate students at the Aviation Institute. Two of the GWU personnel are shown in the picture at the GWU Club preparing for the conference. |
| The conference moved to the Marvin Center the next morning with over 120 separate papers and presentations. |

| Monday morning featured the Plenary Panel Session on Transportation Security. The session was chaired by Robert Gallamore, Director of the Transportation Center at Northwestern University. The panelists were Dr. Patrick Griffin of Sandia and Michael Wolfe of the North River Consulting Group. The Plenary Session provided an informative beginning to the Forum, addressing one of the important themes of the conference. |

Meeting participants were given a warm welcome by incoming TRF President Scott Tarry of the University of Nebraska - Omaha and Vahid Motevalli, Director of the Aviation Institute at George Washington University and Forum Co-sponsor. |
| Jeffery N. Shane, Under Secretary for Policy, USDOT, was our luncheon speaker. Shane's talk, entitled "Transportation Infrastructure and the Private Sector," discussed recent initiatives, including the Administration's surface transportation reauthorization proposal, to encourage private sector involvement in funding and operating transportation facilities. |

Paper and panel sessions occupied most of both Monday and Tuesday. Session topics included "Airline Financial Performance," Freight Demand Modeling and Forecasting," "Using Public-Private Partnerships to Develop Rail Freight Infrastructure," "Air Traffic Control Financing and Organization," "Shifting Patterns of Global Trade" and "Intermodal Transportation Facilities."
