Graduate Student Paper Contest
For Transportation and Related Topics

Have you written, or are in the process of writing, a transportation-related research paper? Consider submitting it to the Transportation Research Forum (TRF) annual student paper contest.

If you would like to print the paper contest information or forward it to a friend, Download the PDF Version. (139K)

What Could You Win?

The award shall consist of a trip to the TRF 50th Annual Forum (March 16-18, 2009) including waived registration fee, hotel room, round-trip airfare1, and a commemorative plaque. The winner is expected to attend the entire conference.

What Are the Rules?

  • The paper must be written by a student or students enrolled in an academic institution during the Spring and/or Fall 2008 term. Only the lead author will be eligible for the award.
  • The paper must concern some aspect of transportation management, planning, economics, or public policy.
  • The paper must be no more than 25 double-spaced type-written pages.
  • The paper must represent original research (not literature reviews) and not have been published elsewhere.
  • Use any approved reference style.
  • Cover page must include the paper title, a single spaced 75 word summary/abstract, student's name, phone and e-mail address, and the name of the institution where the student is enrolled.
  • Second page should repeat title and abstract but contain no identifying names.
  • Students are also encouraged to submit abstracts (by Oct. 31, 2008) and papers (Jan. 1st, 2009) for consideration of presentation/poster sessions at the conference.
  • Papers are not automatically submitted for publication in the Journal of the Transportation Research Forum (JTRF). Authors can submit papers for possible publication by following the instructions found on the Journal Editorial Policy page.

What Is the Chance of Winning?

  • TRF is a modest-sized organization, you are probably one of a relatively small number of students who will know about this contest.
  • ZERO if you don't submit (much better if you submit an entry).
